Pura Goa Lawah, the Bat Cave Temple, is located along the coast of southeastern Bali, The Bat Cave Temple indeed lives up to its name, Lawah is Bat in Balinese language, for three – tier structure stand at the entrance to a large cave. The cave is inhabited by thousand of flying bat that hang from the rocky ceiling by the day and depart on food hunts in explosion of black wings every evening. These large fruit bats are believe to be the temple’s guardians and are considered sacred – as are the large python that live in the neighboring rocks. The bats’ lair is rumored to lead underground all the way to Pura Beakih; other stories have in tunneling beneath the Badung strait to the Pura Peed temple on Nusa penida. This sacred temple was founded in 1007 by the holy Sage from Java, Mpu Kuturan. The temple is one of Sad Kahyangan (six great temples of Bali). the temple and the cave is an obligatory site of Nyekah (deification of the deceased family member soul) pilgrimage. Balinese believe the cave harbors an enormous dragon, Naga Basuki, the mythical serpent of universe and the caretaker of the earth’s equilibrium. A tale is told how a prince of Mengwi actually entered the sacred cave to prove that he was the rightful descendent of Mengwi king, and emerged at Besakih, but his feat was never duplicated – entering the cave is now forbidden.

Besakih Temple Tours

Perched nearly 1000m up the side of Gunung Agung ( The biggest mount in Bali ) is Bali’s most important temple, Pura Besakih. In Fact, it is an extensive complex of more than 20 separated temples, with the largest and most important being Penataran Agung Temple. Despite its importance to the Balinese, Besakih Temple can be a disappointment. The precise origins of the Besakih Temple complex are not clear, but it almost certainly dates from prehistoric times. The stone bases of Penataran Agung Temple and several other temple resemble megalithic stepped pyramid, which date back at least 2000 years. There are many manuscripts mention about establishment, rituals, and the status of Besakih Temple. The central temple was added to over the years and additional temples were build for specific family, occupational and regional groups. Besakih was already very important to the Balinese by the time the Javanese Majapahits conquered Bali is 1343. After that time the temple became the central temple of the Gelgel and Klungkung courts.

Besakih Temple its best when a festival is on, and with so many temples and God represented here. Special ceremony based on Çaka year is conducted 6 times a year. This ceremony is called ” Ngusaba “, a kind of blessing ceremony. At the other village temples in Bali this type of ceremony is also conducted in relation with rice harvesting, especially in the regency of Gianyar. During the Ngusaba ceremony in Gianyar there is a very long procession of girls dressed in Balinese traditional costumes, and women with offering on their head, followed with deafening sound of Balinese traditional musics.

A ceremony called ” Betara Turun Kabeh ” is conducted every year. ” Betara Turun Kabeh ” means all gods are presence. This is the biggest yearly ceremony. While a ceremony every 10 years called ” Paca Wali Krama”, and a ceremony every 100 years called ” Eka Dasa Rudra”. All dates for above ceremony can be known in December for the following year, when Bali calendar has been issued. It’s most enjoyable during one of the frequent festival, when hundreds, perhaps thousand of gorgeously dressed devotees turn up with beautifully arranged overings. Besakih is one of favorite Bali Tours direction in East Bali – Visit Besakih Mother Temple Tours

Tjampuhan ( campuan ) ridge Ubud at the confluence of the Wos Kiwa and Wos Tengen ( Cerik ), campuan actually means “ where two rivers meet “. Far below the bridge is a Gunung Lebah / Labuh Temple, a temple thought to date back as far as 1000 years. From the temple a walking track leads north along the ridge between the rivers, with fields of grass sloping away on the either side. This grass, ( alang – Alang ) is used for traditional thatch roofs, but demand of new construction work, particularly big tourist facilities in Balinese style, has made it too expensive for many smaller users.

After a km or so, there are step trails to the west which descend to the Wos Tengen ( cerik ) river, past areas where stones is cut from the slopes – climbing the other side should bring you to Neka Museum. You can also go down across the east branch of the Wos Kiwa River, up the attractive Pura Ulun Carik, the follow that ridge to Ubud. Further north another trail to the west goes down to the river and comes up near Sanggingan villages.

If you continue the Campuan Ridge, the grassy field gives way to rice paddies and you reach the small village of Bangkiang Sidem. From here you can continue walking north trough Sebali Village for about two km to Keliki Village, an another 20 km or so all the way to Kintamani ( Mount Batur ) on the edge of the great creater. If you don’t want to go that far, there are several option for looping back to Ubud, just past the Bangkiang Sidem Temple, a trail goes west to reach Payogan village, from where you can walk south to the road north of Neka Museum. Trails through the rice field will bring you back to the rice field above Campuan. Campuhan is nice place to visit when you tours to Ubud.

Petulu village is located in north east of Ubud Village. Petulu village is still a part of Ubud district. Petulu in late afternoon each day you can enjoy the spectacular sight of thousand herons arriving home in Petulu. They nest in the trees along the road through the village, and make a spectacular sight as they fly in and commence squabbling over the prime perching places.

The most straight forward way there is to go the east of Jalan Raya Ubud and turn left about two km north, a road branches left to Petulu, alternatively, go north on Jalan Suweta – Ubud, continue through the village of junjungan, which is heavily in to the carving garudas, half a dozen shop by the road side offer them in all sizes from a few cm high to giant two meters Garuda which probably weigh a tone. A little further, on the right, there’s a well marked turn off to petulu Villages.

Walk quickly under the trees if the herons are already roosting, the copious droppings in the road will indicated if it’s wise not to hang around. Donations are requested at the other end of the villages. About a km past the villages you reach the Tegallalang to ubud road, from where it’s a couple of km back to the center of ubud. Take tours to Bali and Visit Petulu Village.

A few km beyond Amlapura ( Karangasem ), in the road down to the sea, Taman Ujung Water palace – atop green and gold hills, with the lavender silhouette of Mount Agung in the distance, the last garden temple quetly glows in the late afternoon sunlight. this elegant complex is one of three water palace built by Karangasem King ” Anak Agung Anglurah As a retreat for his family. constructed in 1919, it originally was centered on a large enclosed bale of stucco and stained glass, with smaller open pavilion and large pond around it. Most of the complex was destroyed in 1963 eruption of Mounth Agung, but there are still wander among the statue and between the ghostly pillars and arches. we can wender around the remnants of the main pool admire the view of the view from the pavilion higher up the hill above the rice paddy’s or continue a little further down the road to the fishing villages on the coast.
Ubud Village

Ubud the art center of Bali and famous for it’s artists and paintings. Ubud hosts very fine and very cheap restaurants as well, adding to the several respected museums further reason for a visit – and to stay a bit longer. Ubud is located 35 km northeast of Bali’s International Airport. It is attractive to tourists for a variety of reasons. On a relatively small island with a horde of attractions, Ubud is centrally located, and even the closest beach is only 30 minutes away. The Ubud area is around two- to three hundred meters above sea level and surrounded by rice fields, which makes it noticeably cooler than then other tourist destinations in Bali. Neighboring villages are well known for unique bamboo crafts and furniture, wood- and stone carving and many other crafts.

Take Ubud Tours – Ubud is famous for it’s regularly nightly traditional dance performances, which are part of the traditional culture and are arranged for tourists on a regular schedule. Hindu-Balinese ceremonies take place on a nearly daily basis, especially in the European summer, which is the driest and coolest season here. Ubud is popular in part today because it is the best place in Bali to break out of the tourist mode and get off the beaten path, although far from undiscovered. Hotels are plentiful; home stays and Indonesian guesthouses (losmen) are easily available to the foreign tourist. Many tourists simply base their entire stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud. Accommodations in Ubud are also somewhat more reasonably priced than in the beach towns of Bali. But atmosphere is perhaps the major attractions. One visitor summed it up this way: Kuta is madness, Sanur is sterile, and Nusa Dua is culturally isolated; Ubud is the place to take Bali Tours direction.

This is the famed temple on the mountain of the poet, which celebrates the Hindu God Siva. there are fascinating complex of 11th century temple shrines and royal tombs chiseled straight out of the sides of hills. Gunung Kawi Temple consists of 10 rock-out shrines ( candi ). a step climb leads to the entrance, where temple face line either sides of the rock, the complex then extends into a monastery and several caves. a solytary shrines stand about a kilometer further down the valley to the south, this is reached by a trek through the rice paddies on the western side of river. it’s believed that some of the monument may be dedicated to King Udayana, Queen Mahendradata, their sons Airlangga and his brother Anak wungsu and Marakata. The legend relate that the whole group of memorials was carved out of the rock face in one hard working night by mighty fingernail of Kebo Iwa, a giant from Bali.
